This year, we are proud to share the inspiring story of Simon, whose resilience, determination, and love for the outdoors remind us of the power of hope and adventure.
As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting our community, Simon's story will also be featured in the Capital Automotive Group Wish Book, helping raise awareness for the life-changing impact of Make-A-Wish and the families it serves.
Meet Simon
At just twenty years old, Simon has always found peace in nature. Whether hiking scenic trails, canoeing on quiet waters, or spending a day fishing, the outdoors has always been where he feels most at home.
After experiencing persistent pain in his jaw and attending numerous medical appointments in search of answers, Simon was diagnosed with cancer. What followed were months of chemotherapy, radiation treatments, and hospital stays. Throughout every challenge, Simon demonstrated remarkable courage and resilience.
While treatment was difficult, one goal continued to motivate him each day: getting back outside and experiencing the adventures he loves.
A Wish That Brought Adventure Back
Because of his passion for exploration, Simon's wish was to travel to Costa Rica, a destination known for its incredible landscapes, lush rainforests, volcanoes, and outdoor adventures.
His wish became much more than a vacation. It provided an opportunity to step away from medical treatments and focus on making memories with his family.
During the trip, Simon was able to:
- Hike through breathtaking natural landscapes
- Explore Costa Rica's famous volcanoes
- Canoe through beautiful waterways
- Experience incredible wildlife and scenery
- Spend meaningful time outdoors with his family
Instead of hospital rooms and treatment schedules, Simon was surrounded by fresh air, adventure, and unforgettable experiences that allowed him to reconnect with what brings him joy.
Finding Strength Through Every Step
Throughout his journey, Simon embraced every new experience with the same determination he showed throughout his treatment.
Whether hiking a trail, taking in the views of a volcano, or simply appreciating the beauty around him, each moment served as a reminder of the importance of living fully and creating lasting memories.
His story reflects the incredible impact a wish can have, not only during a difficult medical journey, but also in creating hope, healing, and happiness for the future.
